About Dr. Yasmin Griffin

Dr. Yasmin Griffin is a proud lifelong resident of Plainfield, New Jersey, and a product of Plainfield Public Schools. Her connection to this community runs deep—she understands the everyday experiences of Ward 1 families because she has lived them alongside her neighbors.
For Dr. Griffin, Plainfield is more than a place—it’s home. It’s where she grew up, where she developed her values, and where her commitment to service began.
A Leader in Education
Dr. Griffin has dedicated her career to education and community development. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Kean University, a Master’s degree in Teaching and Supervision from Saint Peter’s University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Kean University.
She currently serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Coaching at Barack Obama Green Charter School, where she works to strengthen systems, support educators, and ensure that students and families receive the resources they need to succeed.
Through her work, Dr. Griffin has helped create opportunities that empower young people and strengthen the community as a whole.
Commitment to Community
For over a decade, Dr. Griffin has been a dedicated advocate for youth, families, and the Plainfield community. Her work has focused on creating opportunities, supporting growth, and bringing people together to solve real challenges.
She believes that being a strong voice for Ward 1 means listening to residents, understanding their needs, and working collaboratively to create meaningful change.
Why She’s Running
Dr. Griffin is running for Plainfield City Council – Ward 1 because she believes in leadership that is present, transparent, and accountable.
Her experience in education and community advocacy has shown her that real progress happens when leaders listen, collaborate, and take action. She is committed to being a strong voice for Ward 1—advocating for residents and working to strengthen neighborhoods across the community.
